A Cuban family reunite in Moscow during the post pandemic and few weeks before the beginning of the Russian invasion to Ukraine. After 4 years without seeing each other, they are now reunited thanks to the free temporary visa that Cubans have in Russia.
Isabella (2 years old) was born in Quito, Ecuado, but her mother Grettel (33) raised her alone in Havana during the pandemic. Her grandparents Juan (62) and Odalys (57) have spent the pandemic in Moscow as members of the foreign service and have not seen Isabella since she was a newborn. Carlos (37), Isabella's uncle lives in the United States and has never seen her in person.
During the 1980s Carlos lived with his parents in Russia when he was the same age as Isabella. This trip for him is not only a family reunion, but also a reconnection with his childhood through observing the way Isabella experiences the world in the same way he did as a child.
Carlos has documented the experience in black and white and using a 35mm manual lens looking for a similar visuality to his childhood photos.
