Havana, 1984. The nerdy kid who loved spending time among maps and encyclopedias, now holding a camera to justify his curiosity to watch the History from the front row. With the principle that empathy is more valuable than judgement for a comprehensive understanding of the world, Kako Escalona is an independent visual chronicler, triying to show half the world that the other half exists as well.
His artwork has exhibited at 12th Havana Biennial of Arts, the Annemberg Space for Photography at Los Angeles. He has taught the 'Photojournalism and Social Documentary' workshop for the University of Arts of Cuba (ISA), the University of Havana (UH) and the American University of Washington D.C (AU). Kako holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cinematography from University of Arts of Cuba (ISA).
